Sunday 24th of April 2016 is the 100th anniversary date of the start of the 1916 Rising. On this date a group of citizens are organising a march and pageant to ‘Reclaim 1916’.
Pavee Point is joining this pageant and march to re-state the Proclamation vision of an equal and just society and we urge Travellers to join us on the day.
The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens, and declares its resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and of all its parts, cherishing all of the children of the nation equally.
It is self-evident that one hundred years on we have not fulfilled the promise of the Proclamation and that, despite us having legislation for equality, we have not cherished all the children of the nation equally.
We want Traveller families from all around the city and country to join us and support this. We encourage all local projects to bring their banners.
We are bringing a barrel top wagon and horse to ensure that Travellers are visible in this call for equality.
As this is a child friendly event it’s ideal opportunity to celebrate your Traveller identity with your children in a fun and positive setting.
The march and pageant is gathering at Merrion Square at 2pm to march to O’Connell Street where there will be a stage on O’Connell Street for performers: Fionnuala Flanagan, Stephen Rea, Sinead O Connor, Damien Dempsey and Adrian Dunbar and others.
