Pavee Point’s motion on the use of an ethnic identifier in maternal health services was passed by members of the National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) at the recent annual general meeting. Pavee Point is a member of the NWCI, committed to the promotion of women’s rights in Ireland.
The motion highlights how Traveller and Roma women face significant obstacles in accessing maternal health services due to experiences of poverty, marginalisation, racism and discrimination. This results in unequal access and outcome in maternal health services for Traveller and Roma women. With the passing of the motion, the NWCI is committed to improving this situation by promoting the use of an ethnic identifier in services.
Pavee Point would also like to congratulate Rosaleen McDonagh, who was elected to the Executive Board of the NWCI to represent Traveller and Roma women.
