Realisation of Traveller and Roma Womens’ Rights

Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre and The Centre for Global Women’s Studies (National University of Ireland, Galway) hosted a discussion of Traveller and Romani women’s rights in Pavee Point on 22 Oct.  We were delighted to welcome Crina Morteanu, a feminist activist and Rosaleen McDonagh, Traveller Playwright, to discuss Traveller and Romani women’s rights from feminist perspectives.  The event was chaired by Dil Wickremasinghe, Broadcaster with Newstalk 106-108FM, and Anastasia Crickley, UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, was rapporteur for the day.  Both Crina and Rosaleen led a very interesting and important discussion on the human rights issues facing Traveller and Romani women and the strong role by Traveller and Romani women in progressing women’s rights.
